KG Data Protection and Privacy Practice was honored to contribute to the annual GDPR fines and data breach survey of DLA Piper (link to the survey) which covers key GDPR metrics across the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK, since GDPR first applied and for the year to 27 January 2021, with regard to personal data breaches notified to regulators and the fines imposed.
As regards the Greek jurisdiction most of the figures for the third year running have been extracted from the Hellenic Data Protection Authority’s (the HDPA) publicly available information (link to www.dpa.gr) and the remainder have been kindly provided by the latter. Such data have been consequently extrapolated to cover the period until 27 January 2021. It should be noted that Greece continues to rank considerably low among the countries covered in terms of total number of data breaches notified and last on the population weighted breach notification table, while in the rankings of the total value of GDPR fines, Greece is in the upper mid-range.
