Last week, KG’s Competition & Antitrust team attended the inaugural European Competition Forum in Brussels, An important new forum bringing together competition law enforcers, policymakers, academics, economists, in-house counsel and practitioners from across the EU and beyond.
Our firm was represented by Partner and Head of Competition & Antitrust, Anastasia Dritsa, and Counsel Konstantinos Sidiropoulos, who participated in discussions on key developments shaping the future of EU competition law and policy.
A number of themes emerged throughout the Forum:
◾️ The evolving relationship between competition policy, industrial policy and the EU’s broader competitiveness agenda.
◾️ The ongoing review of the EU Merger Guidelines and its implications for transactions, investment and innovation.
◾️ The present and future of digital regulation, AI, and their implications for enforcement and compliance.
◾️ The importance of preserving legal certainty, sound economics and the rule of law as competition policy adapts to new economic and geopolitical realities.
◾️ The role of competition policy in supporting a more integrated and effective Single Market as a driver of innovation, investment and long-term competitiveness.
◾️ The evolving transatlantic landscape and changing realities of antitrust enforcement in the EU and the US.
Beyond the formal programme, the Forum provided an excellent opportunity to exchange views with regulators, competition authorities, clients and fellow practitioners.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and helping our clients navigate an increasingly complex and evolving competition law landscape.
